 A team of two sisters and Philly natives who are crazy about food. Rhonda is a classically trained chef turned baker and graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. She has a bachelors degree in culinary and hospitality management.She has worked in the Philly restaurant industry for 8 years in various roles. Pastry has always had a gravitational pull over her. Rhonda made the shift in her career because of her fascination with pastry. Mercedes' background is in customer service. Working in hospitality over the years, she has developed an expertise and vision outstanding guests experience. Her work extends beyond front of the house into a passion for creating new desserts items and baking. Within the first year of business, they were able to snag a Best of Philly for their brownies and a become Semi-finalists for outstanding baker by the James Beard foundation. 

       Community is one of their core values. To support other artists by bringing awareness to their business and utilizing their products within Second Daughter.

  We are a bakery without a store front inside of the BOK Building.  We operate on a solely on a pre-order basis.

     Their style could be described as whimsical,  abstract and minimalistic. Art,  botanicals and architecture are the major influences on their work. Creating texture and movement through florals, buttercream and shapes. 

They try to rethink how to incorporate texture, patterns and color in a distinctive way. While they enjoy creating abstract designs, they don't shy away from simplistic clean designs.   All of the pastries are made from scratch to order to ensure they are enjoyed at their peak. Second Daughter is based in Philadelphia which allows access to some of the best seasonal and local ingredients like free range organic eggs, local dairy PA/NJ grown fruits, herbs, and vegetables. We pride ourselves on using local and seasonal fruit and vegetables from various local farms such as Indian Orchards and Green Meadow and Zone 7.  

 

    Community is are the forefront our business. To participate not only in business but uplifting and supporting other Philly makers.We prefer to utilize goods made by other local artist within our shop.
