The Ones: Thouxanbanfauni and UnoTheActivist’s “Choppa Down”

The must-hear rap song of the day
Thouxanbanfauni and UnoTheActivist

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Thouxanbanfauni and UnoTheActivist - “Choppa Down”

In 2015, UnoTheActivist and Thouxanbanfauni introduced their narcotized deliveries to the emerging SoundCloud generation with “Parkin’ Lot Pimpin.’” The Atlanta-based duo used that hype to release a collaborative mixtape titled, For Christ’s Sake. Now, more than three years later, the twosome is preparing to drop the sequel, FCS2, and their lead single “Choppa Down” proves that their chemistry hasn’t diminished in the years since.

Uno and Fauni aren’t the fresh-faced ATL up-and-comers they were when they first set foot in the scene. Uno’s evolution has made his old delivery—that, in 2015 was lumped into the “mumble rap” category—sound like a traditional hip-hop flow in comparison to his new stop-start delivery. On Fauni’s end not only has he added a couple of tats but has become a versatile artist that can drop an anti-love album like The Exfiles and still deliver believable threat-filled bars: “Buddy boy, is that your buddy, boy? Go and chop him down.” Though the two have changed, when they collab over the hard-hitting Krookz beat on “Choppa Down,” they still bounce off of each other with ease. It’s the magic of two rappers who enjoy working with each other, releasing music at their pace, and not forcing a damn thing.
