Police are still searching for the shooter

A 9-year-old is among three people who were shot in East Atlanta Village on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The triple shooting took place at the intersection of Flat Shoals and Glenwood avenues about 9:30 p.m., according to Atlanta police.

Crime scene tape could be seen on Flat Shoals Avenue on Thursday morning, hours after a 9-year-old and two men were injured in a shooting Wednesday night. All are expected to survive.

Officers responded to the scene and initially found just one gunshot victim, a man who had been shot in the buttocks, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant told AJC.com.

Witnesses said more people were shot during the incident. The other victims, a man and a 9-year-old boy, were later located at a hospital.

The man had been shot in the hand, while the child had gunshot wounds to both legs, Grant said. Channel 2 Action News reported that the child was shot four times.

The 9-year-old, who is at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, and both men, who are at Grady Memorial Hospital, are expected to survive, police said.

Investigators believe an argument between two groups escalated and gunfire erupted.

“I am not sure how many shots were fired and right now the investigators are still working to determine if it was one shooter or more than one,” police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said Thursday.

Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan leave the scene after the incident. They are working with investigators to identify the shooter, according to police.

This incident comes days after 8-year-old Secoriea Turner was shot and killed in southwest Atlanta, leading to outcries for peace from government officials.

The child was among five people killed over the Fourth of July weekend in Atlanta shootings. The violence prompted Gov. Brian Kemp to deploy up to 1,000 National Guard troops to protect state buildings amid the unrest.
