Benefit for Family of Fallen Deputy Hendrix

Deputy Sheriff Ryan Hendrix, an 8 year veteran of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, was shot and killed September 10, 2020 when he responded to a vehicle tampering and shooting call in the early hours of the morning.

A citizen called 911 at about 3:00 am after discovering two subjects breaking into a vehicle. The citizen retrieved a firearm and confronted the subjects. One of the subjects had stolen a firearm from the vehicle and the two exchanged gunshots.

When Deputy Hendrix and other officers arrived on the scene, the suspect appeared to comply with commands initially, but then grabbed then grabbed the handgun and fire one round, which struck Deputy Hendrix. The other deputies returned fire and killed the subject. Another person of interest in the case was later apprehended.

Deputy Hendrix was transported to a local hospital where it was determined he could not survive. He was declared medically deceased, put remained on life support, so that his organs can be donated.

Deputy Hendrix was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his two children and fiancée.

The Sheriff's office released this statement about the deputy's passing:

"It is with a heavy heart the family of Henderson County Deputy Ryan Hendrix and Sheriff Lowell Griffin announce Ryan's passing today at 12:57 p.m. Early this morning while the world slept, Ryan responded to assist a family needing help when they became innocent victims of a violent encounter. We all know the tragic outcome, but Ryan refuses to let the story end there.

Even in passing, Ryan continues to exemplify a servant's heart. You see, Ryan was also an organ donor.  He will continue to help strangers for a lifetime, even after making the ultimate sacrifice.

Ryan's family wants everyone to know that Ryan was doing the job he was born to do and he died doing the job he loved."

Back The Blue NC would like to raise donations for the Fiancee and children that Deputy Hendrix has left behind in order to help alleviate any financial burdens associated with this tragedy.
