With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.

Tha God Fahim - “Rhyme Equity”

It may be Election Day, but it’s hard not to connect with Tha God Fahim’s political indifference on “Rhyme Equity.” “Tell me Democrat or Republican/Who’s suffering?” he raps on the opening line, over a dreary piano melody that fits the mood of the day. “November be right ’round the corner, I ain’t trustin’ them.” This is supposedly the most important election of our lifetimes, though to Fahim, we’re on the brink of the “2020 apocalypse” either way the votes fall. But he still has some faith. “I pray to whose beam is supreme, I put my trust in Him,” he says, more impassioned than usual. And just because Fahim is turning to spirituality doesn’t mean he’s not living in reality. If anything, his cynicism is more relatable than any bubbly “Get out and vote” ad has ever been.
